| make | Honda Civic | | model | cx hatchback | | year | 1997 | | what | could an overcharging alternator cause a short? i put a new engine and trans in my 97 civic cx. worked fine for 3 to 4 months. one day the battery was dead after driving a few miles. i replaced the battery and alternator. the next day came out and the battery was dead again. did some tests and inspected most of the wiring and everything was good. let the car sit for a month while i was out of town. i used it for about 2 days and the new alternator started to overcharge. 17 volts at idle, caused the battery to swell and boil. popped the caps off. replaced both again. it is charging at 13 to 14 volts now, but when i turn on the head lights the battery light flickers on and off. after about a week of use i came out to start it in the morning and the battery was dead again. have gone over all the wiring again and nothing is grounding out, blowing fuses, or shorting out. could it be the computer. i am stumped. could really use some help i need my gas saver fixed. thanks. |
